Youth Memorial Bench

It is always hard to lose a loved one, especially someone so young. Our team recently designed a youth memorial bench in memory of, Destiny Riekeberg, a nine year old who fought bravely against a rare form of cancer. Former classmates came together to honor her life with a beautiful memorial bench. The bench, along with a handicap swing and bleachers, were added to Rubey Street Park.

At Smith Steelworks, we feel humbled to have played a small part in paying tribute to Destiny’s memory. Click below to get started on a custom memorial bench. #DestinyStrong

Youth Memorial Bench Dedication

Destiny’s Memorial Bench was unveiled on August 7, 2021 during a celebration of life event. The bench was placed in Rubey Street Park. The occasion brought family, friends, former classmates, and community members together to honor her memory.

Words were spoken, stories were shared, balloons were released, laughs were heard, and tears were shed.

Bench Benefits

Bring Family & Friends Together

Designing the youth bench. Organizing a celebration. Making plans to visit the bench’s location. The bench brings everyone together in so many ways. Everyone handles grief differently. Our hope is that the bench provide ways to mourn together. And in time, be a space share stories, memories, deep thoughts, and easy conversation.

Facilitate Healing Process

We understand firsthand the healing that can take place from the memorial bench. The first bench we made was for Richard Smith, the owner’s nephew, who died unexpectedly at the age of 15. A custom bench was designed in his memory and placed in a local park near his home. Shortly after, we began receiving requests from others to make these personalized memorial benches.

Sit, stay awhile, and remember your loved one.

& Help Children Cope With Loss

Death isn’t easy for anyone to understand; but it’s especially hard for children to comprehend. The bench may help represent a physical way for them to connect with their sibling, friend, or classmate that has passed away.
